Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable immune-mediated disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves). The immune system mistakenly attacks myelin—the “insulation” of nerve fibers—causing inflammation, myelin damage, and the appearance of multiple “scars/flares” in different areas and at different times. The disease is not contagious. The causes are not fully understood...
